We all interact with software in one way or another. In my automotive career, I became very curious about how front-end inputs are tied to back-end databases and how they interact with one another. So, I started digging.

Through research online and speaking with jiu-jitsu training partners that work in the tech industry I thought 'I have to learn more'. I have been looking for something that excites me and is easier on my body than mechanics. No surprise now, but this is it!

I started with "Zero to Mastery" online learning for a few months and worked through their complete web developer course. I got hooked. Starting in October 2024, I have been taking a "Software Development Bootcamp" with Circuit Stream and UBC. It is going great and I am learning some awesome tools and discovering how complex this industry is. I can't wait to work in this industry full-time and be a part of a team to build some amazing projects.

Mechanics

As a child, nothing was safe — I dismantled it all.

I started getting paid for dismantling things when I was 15, working at a marine shop. I got better at assembling things later when I worked at an automotive shop at 17. I spent years as a marine technician and now I am a GM Master Technician authorized to work on EVs.

Two wheels, four wheels, or no wheels. 13L diesels, 2.5HP outboard motors, and 400V electric vehicles — I can confidently say I have worked on it all. Over the years, I have learned that my analytical mindset, experience, and deep understanding of fundamental concepts are what have made me successful as a technician.

Personal

As a typical West Coaster, I enjoy getting outside and walking my two dogs with a coffee in hand. You might also find me training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which I love doing at least a few times a week. Otherwise, I will be puttering around the house or spending time with my wife.
